As we all know, Web Browsers are
the tool that we use to access the Internet over our computers. It is an
essential component to web browsing. There are many types of web browsers and
there have been many types of web browsers over the years. Some have really
took flight, others have crashed quickly, and others have kind of not been able
to adequately meet the demands of the average Internet user. There have been
many heated debates about what is the best web browser and obviously, there are
many arguments to made from the top browser all the way down to the more
obscure browsers with their cult followings.
Let’s take a look at five top web
browsers that many people use.
Internet
Explorer
Obviously the most commonly used
and one of the more polarizing browsers on the market this day, would have to
be Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. Explorer obviously is the first browser most
have used, due to the fact that it is packaged with the various versions of
Windows. Of course, it might not be the best, as its reputation of faulty
security and resource hogging has been well earned. There are people who are
fans of Internet Explorer, people who hate it, and those who enjoyed the
previous versions, but feel that the newer versions of Internet Explorer have
taken a bit of a dip. Regardless Internet Explorer is a common tool to access
the Internet, even if it is just to find a different web browser so people will
never have to use it again. Version 9.0 of Internet Explorer came out recently
but 10.0 is in development.
Mozilla
Firefox
Firefox from Mozilla is a popular
alternative to the Internet Explorer browser, although many feel over the past
year, it has burned through a lot of new version from 4 through 8, when they
really did not offer too much to qualify as a new version. Also 9 is in Beta
Stage and 10 is in the Alpha Stage. Firefox really might crash and burn at the
rate it is throwing out new browser versions before their users can catch their
breath, but it is never the less a popular web browser and one that is used by
a number of people. Firefox is not without its problems, with crashes happening
at times and also a drain on the resources of lower end computers. Mozilla
Firefox is rather commonly used by many and is only second due to the fact to
Explorer has the leg up do to having the Microsoft Windows in.
Google
Chrome
Pretty much the new kid on the
block and what is considered to be the number three browser behind Explorer and
Firefox, another win by the undisputed rulers of the Internet, Google, is
Google Chrome. Chrome is much loved because of its speed and simplicity. It is
only been out since 2008 and the sky appears to be the limit for this great
browser. The latest version of Chrome that has been released as of this writing
is 3.7.7.0. The most pressing criticism is that certain websites don’t work as
well in Chrome but that is the fault of the website designers and not of
Chrome. It is something that they must improve upon if they do not wish to lose
traffic. Can Google take over the web browsers like they have the Internet?
Only time will tell.
Opera
Opera is a web browser that has a
small cult following although a step behind the three previously mentioned. It
is a rather good alternative to have on your computer when one of your web
browsers decides to not work and you need to access the Internet to figure out
what the problem might be. If you’re looking for an alternative that is not one
of the big three Internet browsers, then you can do far worse than Opera.
Version 10 is the latest version of Opera.
Netscape
Navigator
Technically Netscape is no longer
making new browsers, but for years, long before Firefox, Netscape was the
number two browser right behind Internet Explorer and even since being
discontinued since the early part of 2008, there are still people that look
upon it fondly and may have it as a backup browser on their computer. It still
gets some moderate use, even for not being supported or released. The last
version of Netscape Navigator was version 9 released in early 2008.
There are many more web browsers,
some good, some not so good, and some that do have potential yet but it remains
to be seen whether they will catch on. Yet these five are among the most common.
