One of the most common afflictions of
many who take up the profession of writing is the Death of a Writer.
Not necessarily that they pass on but they work, work, and work in an
attempt to earn some money or perhaps some recognition. Regardless
eventually a few get through that glass ceiling and move onto other
things. Other writers just become supremely frustrated and give up.
On the Internet, there are hundreds of
thousands of would be writers out there. The pure amount of content
put out each and every day is extremely astronomical. Writing
pertaining to a variety of different subjects, with a variety of
experience, expertise, and talent. The Internet can really be a web
in the sense of writing, as you will be tangled in the mass amount of
writing.
Less than one percent of those authors
may in fact achieve any number of notable success. Often times a
writer can pour their heart and soul into an article. They can do
research, while adding their own expertise and ideas, to form about
the closest thing to the perfect article that a reader would imagine.
It would be a captivating read. Providing of course many people read
it.
There will be a few hits here and there
for the hard work, and in the case of more fortunate writers, a few
hundred hits. In the end, it nowhere comes near the quality of return
that the writer will have right on the investment of their time. A
few disappointments like this and only the most stubborn and most
patient writers have gone on.
Most writers have given up.
That is really the death of a writer.
It happens with Joe Blogger, it happens
with professional writers as well to an extent. Professional writers
are at the mercy of a publishing company most of the time. With a
publishing company who tears apart the heart and soul of the writer's
work of art. Before they reassemble it. While some offer a bit more
creative freedom, for many publishers, their writers are mere tools
to promote some higher agenda.
On the Internet, you do have a lot of
freedom. Other than the potentially illegal and socially
unacceptable, you can write about any kind of topic. For better or
for worse, your writing will be what you intend to be. You have the
freedom to write about what you want to, for better or for worse.
Yet writing is something that only less
than one percent of writers on the Internet will ever completely
achieve. Eventually writers realize that the talent and the passion
they once have is crushed. They just move beyond.
Writing is if nothing else a thankless
profession. And those eyeballs on the Internet are the most critical
audience. Of course, gaining any kind of audience is half the battle
for the article writer on the Internet. Keeping the audience is the
the other half and the half which is lost more often than not.
Writers will be born every day. Those
who go with fresh perspectives and many ideas. While old war horses
in the world of writing get put to bed every day, as the stubborn
continue to slog on, determined to succeed by sheer force of will.
It is a long and winding road.
