New YouTube Layout a Real Eyesore

>
As websites often decide to do, YouTube has made more than a few changes to its website layout and structure. And naturally, these changes have been extremely polarizing to say the very least. The problem is that there are many websites who get it into their heads that they have to change, to keep their websites fresh and thus they change.

The New YouTube is Ugly and Clunky.

Change might rather gain interest by the casual users, but once the shiny new paintjob loses its luster, the casual losers decide to move on to different things. Changes such as the one that YouTube has made only serve to agitate the regular users.  Especially when they tinker without the layout for the worse.

Does YouTube’s Changes Add Anything to the Website

In a very small way yes, but in a much bigger way, no, the changes have not made much of a different. The recommended and popular videos used to be in horizontal menus, but now they are tilted in a vertical manner. A weird and rather cosmetic change but it is in fact there for sure.

The various categories have been organized in a button format as opposed to standard text. On a grey on black color scheme as well, which is a bit of an eyesore but not as bad as many that have been on the Internet. The best color schemes for the average user is black on white or white on black. Simplicity is best and also the website seems a bit more active and a bit too cluttered, which can be a turn off.
It’s different than what you’re used to with YouTube, which is the biggest problem.

The User Profiles

User profiles have interestingly enough reverted in a way back to their pre 2009 model, but with the new ugly layout of YouTube. Which is funny, as people really threw a fit when they changed the way the profiles were laid out in 2009. However, YouTube changed the profiles, first a few at first, and then a full scale change in general, with the videos being listed in a clunky manner.

Then just when we get used to the new profile layouts, YouTube decides that almost two-three years later, they’re going to go back to the layout that the users complained about in the first place. With a slightly more ugly layout. Sometimes I wonder if YouTube used the blind to test market their new design. Providing if they test marketed at all.

Uploading Videos

The meat and potatoes of YouTube, as someone has to upload those videos for YouTube. For a time, you could revert back to the old uploading system but I’m sure if that is not gone by now, it will be soon. Users are not pleased about how the upload system has changed and there seems to be times where videos don’t upload correctly or for rather short videos( three minutes or less), take an obscene amount of time to process.

The bugs are going to be ironed out in time but with the clunky nature of the new video upload of the new design, one must wonder if YouTube rushed updated website just a little bit, before properly testing it. Which is the worst sin that you can do when updating a website or making changes. Other than making changes that completely catch users off guard and eliminate the experience.

The new design is likely going to be here to stay, whether we like it or not. YouTube is rather secure with its status as the number one video sharing website on the webs, so it can make as many changes as it likes, no matter how ill-conceived they might be. Given that they are owned by Google, who rewrite the rules of the Internet as they see fit to put more money in their pocket, this is to be expected.  The new YouTube looks ugly and it is not inconvenient. Not the worst design change but it’s up there.
